Town of Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone says the current sex offender registry isn?t working and needs to be changed.
Bellone says the registry is fraught with inaccuracies, which makes it nearly ineffective. At a press conference Wednesday, the supervisor highlighted several instances where a sex offender was listed as living at one address and actually lived at another.
In one example, level 3 sex offender James Stoutmire lives in Wyandanch according to the registry. However, as News 12 Long Island found out, he has been in jail for the past month. The Town of Babylon did not know of his whereabouts.
