Town of Babylon officials and News 12 Long Island found several listings in the New York State Sex Offender Registry are inaccurate.
In one example, a sex offender who says he's lived in Copiague for more than a year, just appeared on the state registry this week. Eighteen new names showed up on the registry as living in Babylon Tuesday, but Supervisor Steve Bellone says many of them have already moved away. According to Bellone, some moved as far as the Dominican Republic and Atlanta, while another relocated to Mineola.
Residents say the registry's out-of-date information on the residences of more than a dozen sex offenders is disconcerting. They believe the government cannot fail at keeping track of sexual predators.
