The au pair at a Roslyn Heights home was arrested for violating the social host law after police say a teen was found unconscious with alcohol poisoning in the driveway over the weekend.
Police say 30-year-old Andrean Newland was left in charge Saturday night, when the backyard of the Shepherd Lane home was packed with teenagers around the age of 14 or 15 drinking beer.
"This was a dangerous situation with out-of-control drinking,? Nassau Detective Lt. Kevin Smith says. "The owners of the house were not home at the time, but the au pair was left in charge of the premise and really did nothing to deter these kids from drinking at the house and certainly didn't prevent it."
Winthrop University Hospital officials confirm the teen is still in the hospital. His name and condition are not being released because he is a minor.
Police say the charges against Newland could be upgraded to endangering the welfare of a child.
