Lawyers for a Belle Terre man convicted of murdering his parents in 1988 are asking a Suffolk judge to reconsider the rejected motion for a new trial.
Defense attorneys claim three new witnesses have come forward to testify on behalf of 34-year-old Martin Tankleff, who is currently serving a 50-year-to-life sentence for killing Seymour and Arlene Tankleff 18 years ago. One of the witnesses is the wife of Glenn Harris, who the defense says drove two other men to the Tankleff house the night of the murder.
Prosecutors have questioned the character of the defense?s witnesses, and last week Judge Stephen Braslow agreed that they were not believable. Despite the setback, Tankleff?s family members say they have never stopped believing in Martin?s innocence and will not go away until they feel justice has been served.
