Another die-off of Peconic Bay scallops is being reported.
The scallop harvest season started today and continues through March 31.
News 12 is hearing it’s another rough year following the historic die-off last year.
Some of factors that may have contributed is a parasite, the presence of predatory cow-nosed rays which eat scallops, warmer waters, and low dissolved oxygen levels during summer spawning season.
The impact will be felt in the local economy, hitting baymen, local markets that sell them and numerous restaurants hard.
