Anonymous tip leads to arrest of White Plains man in fatal shooting

Based on evidence linking suspect to the incident, police say they arrested Shakar A. Lerke, 25, of White Plains.

An anonymous tip led police to arrest a man who they say fatally another man in White Plains on Thursday.
Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says Maurice Wilson Miller, 31, of Elmsford, was shot in the area of 33 Fisher Court just before 4 p.m.
EMS personnel arrived to find Miller unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest. After starting CPR and other lifesaving measures, Miller was transported to White Plains Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At 7:50 p.m., an anonymous caller tipped off police that the man believed to be the suspect was walking on Post Road. Officers went to 2 East Post Road, where they picked up that man and brought him to police headquarters.
Based on evidence linking suspect to the incident, police say they arrested Shakar A. Lerke, 25, of White Plains.
He will be arraigned on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal use of a firearm in the first degree.
Police say the two men knew each other and had been in an ongoing dispute.
Chong declined to say if they’ve recovered the weapon, but said they had enough evidence to arrest the suspect. Chong thanked the public for the dozens of calls and tips they received after the incident.
