Animal advocates are reminding pets owners that the loud booms from fireworks can scare their dogs and cats.
They say the best place for pets to be is at their homes.
"That pet is better at home along with the music or the TV on in a secure area than taking it with you," says Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross.
Advocates say comfort and security vests can help with pets' anxiety.
They say it is also important to make sure pets are wearing their collars and ID tags in case they get scared and run off.
