Police are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that severely injured a 12-year-old girl in Mastic.

Alize McDonald was struck at the corner of Hoover Court and Paul Drive as she walked with her cousin and a neighbor. She suffered a broken ankle, lacerations to her face and bruises all over her body.

The neighbor, who was pushing a 1-year-old in a stroller, was also struck, but was not seriously hurt.

"No parent, no child, nobody should go through what I went through, just coming up to her, not knowing if she was dead or alive," says the victim's mother, Samantha Carcione.

Authorities are urging the driver to come forward immediately. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
