ALERT CENTER: Massapequa Park woman accused of DWI, driving with 8-year-old son in car

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call for an auto accident with a disturbance on Wantagh Avenue around 3:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a Massapequa Park woman has been arrested for driving while intoxicated with a child in the car.  
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call for an auto accident with a disturbance on Wantagh Avenue around 3:25 p.m. Wednesday.  
Police say Valerie Decker, 46, was operating a 2017 Dodge Ram and struck a parked vehicle in front of 2166 Wantagh Avenue.   
Police say Decker, while attempting to parallel park, struck a 2019 Infinity with a female occupant, 50.  Officers responded to the accident.  
Upon arrival, police observed Decker leaving the scene and proceed to drive southbound on Wantagh Avenue.   
Officers then activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Wantagh Avenue and Merrick Road. 
A subsequent investigation was conducted and Decker was placed under arrest without incident.   
Decker’s 8-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle.  The child was released into the custody of a family member.  
No injuries were reported.  
Decker is charged with DWI, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger less than 16 years old and endangering the welfare of a child.
