The Malverne Fire Department has alerted area residents of a text message scam.

According to the department, the message was sent out to Nassau County residents posing as the local fire department.

The fire department says it is not involved in any such fund drive other than annual mailing and will not text or call to solicit money.

They are asking residents to please refrain from answering any texts or calls, and for any escalated issues involving money to call police.
