An East Meadow convenience store accused of selling drug-laced candy bars was shut down by the Town of Hempstead Thursday.

The owner and an employee of Exotic Convenience Store, Ameen Ahmed and Ahmed Ajomai, were arrested Wednesday on felony drug charges.

A sign was posted to the door and pad locks were installed.

The business was allegedly selling chocolate bars with THC, magic mushrooms and marijuana.

The store located on East Meadow Avenue was also cited for selling smoking paraphernalia within 1,000 feet of a park.

Inspectors also found several new violations Thursday and issued appearance tickets to Ahmed and Ajomai.

Ahmed, a store employee, pleaded not guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful sale of cannabis. Ajomai, the owner of the shop, pleaded not guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Neighbors say they are happy that the town took action.

"If they were selling illegal stuff, they not supposed to sell illegal stuff," says Umer Farooq, of East Meadow. "If the town has a legal authority to do that, they exercised their authority to do it."

One man says he was planning to buy something called a pre-roll, which he says has marijuana it. The man says he is disappointed that the store closed.

A man who was behind the counter when town officials showed up denied the allegations.

Both men were released and ordered to wear electronic monitoring.
