Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) is expected to announce Monday whether he will retry Martin Tankleff for the murder of his parents or dismiss all charges against him. Prosecutors were scheduled to announce a decision two weeks ago, but asked for more time to review new DNA evidence. Martin Tankleff was convicted in 1990 of the murders afterpolice said he confessed. Tankleff immediately recanted theconfession, but served 17 years in prison. Last December, anappellate court ruled that key evidence in the case had beenoverlooked and said Tankleff was entitled to a new trial.After Suffolk County prosecutors opted against a new trial, theNew York Attorney General's Office was called in to review thecase.News 12 Long Island will have continuing coverage of the case at 2 p.m.
