AAA: Memorial Day travel expected to be up 60% from last year

AAA says that from Thursday to Monday, more than 37 million people are expected to travel.

The Memorial Day weekend is almost here, and some people are getting a head start on traveling to their holiday destination.
AAA says that from Thursday to Monday, more than 37 million people are expected to travel. That's up 60% from last year.
According to AAA, 90% of travelers will be driving. One of the worst times to be on the road is between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Aside from traffic, the gas prices have skyrocketed.
The average price for gas on the island is $3.06.
Gas Buddy says Montauk Native Gasoline in Mastic is the cheapest in Suffolk at $2.69 a gallon.
In Nassau, the cheapest regular gas is $2.75 at the Conoco in Hempstead.
