A 90-year-old woman was found dead after a fire broke out at a retirement community in Sayville early Sunday morning.
Crews rushed to the Sunrise Village condo complex around 4:15 a.m. after a 911 caller reported smoke and flames.
Authorities say the fire broke out in the unit at 162 Revere Drive, where the deceased victim lived. She has been identified as Elizabeth Sclafani.
The flames also spread to two other neighboring units in the 55+ community.
Police say they don't believe foul play was involved. A medical examiner will determine the woman's exact cause of death.
Firefighters from six departments responded to the fire. One Sayville firefighter was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The Red Cross is helping residents of the complex who have been displaced by the fire.
