53-year member of Mattituck Fire Department dies while responding to fire

Officials say Leonard Llewelyn, 82, was riding his bicycle responding to a fire when he was hit.

A 53-year member of the Mattituck Fire Department has died after being hit while on his bicycle responding to a fire, according to fire department officials.

The loss of 82-year-old Leonard Llewelyn is being considered a line-of-duty death.

Police say Llewelyn was hit by a car last Tuesday on Route 25 in Mattituck.

Wake services are planned for tonight and the burial will be tomorrow.
