Three elementary schools in Long Beach will be closed Monday after a student within the city limits was diagnosed with what appears to be an E. coli infection.
East, West and Lindell elementary schools will be closed as the city remains under a boil water alert due to E. coli bacteria found in the water supply.
In a letter posted on its
website, The Long Beach School District says the closings were ordered out of “an abundance of caution.”
A letter to parents stated in part: "Although we can provide adequate bottled water for students and staff to drink, we cannot guarantee proper handwashing among students."
Lido, Pre-K, Long Beach Middle School and Long Beach High School will not be closed. Their drinking water comes from a different supply.
The health department has been conducting precautionary tests and says no additional samples have tested positive for the bacteria.
