Three teens have been charged in connection to an ecstasy overdose of a student – as well as having a cache of drugs valued at about $500,000, Nassau police say.
Acting Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says 18-year-olds Kevin Staiano and Brandon Bromberg, both of Plainview, and 19-year-old Justin Gennaro, of Queens, were arrested in connection to the classroom overdose.
Nassau police declined to name the school, but News 12 has confirmed that a student from Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School was hospitalized on the first day of class after appearing to be under the influence of drugs. Staiano is also a student at that high school.
Police say they seized 7 grams of cocaine, 4 pounds of marijuana, more than 1,600 ecstasy pills and more than 2,000 xanax pills from the teens. They say many of the drugs were discovered after the Plainview teens were pulled over in Bromberg's vehicle Tuesday. Ryder says Staiano also rented a Queens apartment from Gennaro, where police later seized additional drugs and $8,000 in cash.
Ryder says the 18-year-old who overdosed is "recovering and doing well."
The three teens were arraigned Wednesday morning on a slew of drug charges. Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District released a statement directing all inquires to the Nassau Police Department.
