An approved data center in South Brunswick has become the target of environmental groups and neighbors as construction ramps up.

Environmental groups are hosting a town hall in Princeton Friday night at Christ Congregation before the Department of Environmental Protection public comment period on air pollution runs out.

The site along Route 1 is a proposed 341,000-square-foot data center. Bloomberg is the tenant.

A company spokesperson tells News 12 that this is not a hyperscale data center, and that the 12 diesel generators proposed on the site are for emergency backup purposes, such as during a storm.

This project was approved in 2025 by the South Brunswick Planning Board. The mayor in nearby Princeton says the diesel emissions would negatively impact air quality all over the region.

The DEP is seeking public comment until November 9. The agency has previously said the health risk is “negligible.”

Recent Rutgers Eagleton polling shows a majority of participants oppose data centers in their hometowns and statewide.

“When thousands of residents are angry because they were never told about this data center being put here, that is a problem," said Ben Dziobek, of Climate Revolution Action Network. "We need our legislators to catch up and pass serious legislation to not only put a pause on data center construction until we have the necessary regulations to protect residents, but to stand up to the corporate interests like Bloomberg.”

Bloomberg has a large campus in Princeton with 1,800 employees. A company spokesperson says the project will generate major tax revenue. DEP public comment ends Nov. 9; it can be submitted here.
