A Newark driver was seriously injured after losing control of his vehicle and crossing into oncoming traffic on the Garden State Parkway in Union County.
The crash happened around 6:05 a.m. on the southbound side of the Garden State Parkway near milepost 136.8 in Union Township.
Robert M. Nisbett, 35, was driving a Mercedes-Benz south when he lost control, struck the left guardrail and crossed into the northbound lanes, according to troopers.
The Mercedes then collided with a Nissan and a Kia SUV that were traveling north.
The Kia was redirected into a Honda SUV, troopers said.
Nisbett was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the Kia, along with the driver and two passengers in the Nissan, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.
The driver of the Honda also sustained minor injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
