A Massapequa woman who turned her own cancer journey into a mission to help others received a surprise honor from the New York Mets.
Before the game on Wednesday, Bridget Rogers was recognized by the team for her work supporting children impacted by cancer.
Rogers was first diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was 12 years old.
She underwent numerous operations and lives with remaining tumors that still require monitoring today.
She became involved with A Moment of Magic Foundation as an undergraduate at Ohio State University.
With her knowledge as a survivor, she helped develop workshops promoting emotional resilience and coping skills for children enduring cancer.
As those workshops become implemented nationwide, Rogers continues the next step in her mission - becoming a physician focused on caring for medically vulnerable children.
The Mets celebrated her work by having David Wright pay her a surprise visit before taking the field for a pregame ceremony.
She was also named a “Guardian Everyday Champion”, a title recognizing individuals who make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
