Good Samaritans helped save a 5-year-old girl from nearly drowning Sunday at Branch Brook Park in Newark.
The Essex County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a child in distress in the water behind the boathouse around 2:50 p.m.
They say two people near the scene pulled her from the water and began performing CPR. Officers joined the effort and continued administering CPR until she resumed breathing.
EMS then took the girl to University Hospital for further treatment. She is expected to be OK.
Essex County Sheriff Amir D. Jones released a statement thanking the individuals who helped the girl, officers and EMS personnel.
“Their coordinated response was instrumental in saving a young girl’s life. We are thankful for this outcome and continue to wish her and her family a speedy recovery,” it read.
