5 people rescued from sinking vessel in Long Island Sound

A Suffolk police vehicle collided with an SUV in Suffolk County Monday night.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Middle Country Road near Swezey Lane in Middle Island, police say.

Officials said the marked police SUV sustained front-end damage.

No serious injuries were reported.

Traffic was backed up on Middle Country Road during the investigation and debris cleanup.

An official cause of the crash has not been determined.
