Nearly 80 residents have been displaced following a fire Thursday at a Danbury apartment complex, fire officials say.
Officials received numerous 911 calls around 4:15 p.m. about a fire at the Ashwood Valley Luxury Apartments complex on Sandpit Road.
When crews arrived, they found a working fire and learned that a resident was trapped on his balcony while smoke filled his apartment.
Firefighters were able to rescue the man using a ground ladder.
He was taken to Danbury Hospital.
Officials say during the fire, part of a three-floor building also collapsed.
A total of three people were taken to the hospital, along with one firefighter. A dog was also rescued and taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment.
Sixty firefighters from multiple departments responded and the fire was knocked down in two hours.
The residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
