The 19th annual Soldier Ride returned to Babylon on Friday, bringing wounded veterans together for a more than 25-mile adaptive bike ride focused on healing, support, and recovery despite an air quality alert across Long Island.
The ride begins at Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst and travels through Lindenhurst, Copiague, Amityville, Babylon Village, and West Islip before ending at Overlook Beach.
Drivers should expect temporary road closures and rolling traffic delays along portions of Wellwood Avenue, Hoffman Avenue, Oak Street, Route 110, Route 109, Montauk Highway, Robert Moses Causeway and Ocean Parkway as riders make their way along the route.
An air quality alert remains in effect across Long Island. Anyone spending extended time outdoors should monitor conditions and stay hydrated.
Soldier Ride helps wounded veterans rebuild physically and emotionally through adaptive cycling while connecting them with others who share similar experiences.
Over the past 19 years, the Babylon community has helped raise money to support Wounded Warrior Project programs.
Organizers say the community’s continued support is what keeps the annual event going year after year.
