Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas is warning residents about a new email scam.

She says people are receiving malicious emails that claim to be from the Connecticut Business Registry. The email includes a link to review and sign a document.

Her office says this a spoofing scam, a type of scam where scammers use an email address to make their email appear to come from a legitimate source. With this scam, the email used is similar to one from Office of the Secretary of the State.

Official emails from Thomas' office will always come from a @ct.gov email address. Thomas says her office will never send an email containing unsolicited documents that require a signature.
