An investigation completed by the Department of Justice has determined that Yale Medical School discriminated based on race in admissions, the agency announced Thursday.

The department's findings concluded that the school violated federal law by intentionally selecting applicants based on their race.

Investigators say admission data showed that Black and Hispanic applicants who had lower academic qualifications were admitted over their White and Asian counterparts.

The department also said that the school and officials studied how to use racial proxies to work around the Supreme Court's ruling on affirmative action.
