Wilton firefighters rescued a man who became trapped in an attic last week, James Blanchfield, the town's fire chief and emergency manager director says.

On April 30, firefighters were called to a home just before 4:30 p.m. for a report of someone trapped.

Blanchfield says the man fell in the attic and became lodged between the rafters. The fall caused a significant portion of the sheetrock ceiling to collapse into the garage below.

Firefighters soon realized they had limited options to remove the man. Blanchfield says they used the fold-down attic ladder, along with a rope system, body belay and a SKED stretcher to remove the man.

Once he was safely rescued, the man was taken to Norwalk Hospital.

It's not clear what caused the man to fall or why he was in the attic.
