A new social media challenge is asking the public to eat a bowl of ramen to raise awareness for Epilepsy and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy.

The nonprofit Milo and Me hosted a pre-kickoff event in at Serendipity Labs in Stamford along with the Mark Shaparin Foundation.

Mark Shaparin was a healthy 10-year-old who died after a seizure in his sleep.

His father, Naum Shaparin, who is a doctor, is finding new ways to educate the public.

"Today we are here because we are trying to find ways to get public awareness out through social media specifically. And so, in the vein of the ice bucket challenge, we decided to do a ramen challenge. The reason was because Mark loved food, he was a huge foodie, and he loved exotic food. Last year we did an escargot challenge that was a little too exotic for some people. This year we are doing the ramen challenge, and we hope that will make it a little easier for people to participate," said Shaparin who is co-founder and president of the Mark Shaparin Foundation.

Participants have a hundred days to post a video for the 2026 Ramen Challenge with the hashtag #SlurpforSeizureAwareness.

The challenge goes until June 30.
