Three years ago, admitted Gilgo Beach serial killer, Rex Heuermann, was taken into custody.

It was July 13, 2023, when FBI agents arrested Heuermann in midtown Manhattan.

News 12 was the first to break the news of the long-awaited update in the case.

The Massapequa Park native was initially charged with murdering Amber Lynn Costello, Megan Waterman and Melissa Barthelemy, before subsequently being connected to four additional murders of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla, and Valerie Mack in the years that followed.

Heuermann admitted to the killing of an eighth victim, Karen Vergata, as part of his plea agreement in April.

Suffolk County Supreme Court Judge Timothy Mazzei sentenced the confessed murderer to life in prison without parole last month.

He agreed to cooperate with the FBI’s behavioral analysis unit as part of his plea.
