The Mayor’s Office and the Department of Transportation have launched a pothole “blitz” as more than 80 DOT crews began patching damage left behind by historic winter weather across all five boroughs starting at 6 a.m. Saturday.

The DOT expects to fill thousands of potholes in a single day, with additional repair blitzes planned in the coming weeks. Since Jan. 1, the agency has repaired more than 50,000 potholes, including over 10,000 in the past week, while maintaining a response time of just over two days.

The work coincides with the city’s annual road-resurfacing season, which includes full curb-to-curb repaving projects.

But residents from Under the K Bridge Park to Canarsie say they are still waiting for improvements in their neighborhoods. Joe, who spoke with News 12 from his car at Flushing Avenue and Bedford Avenue, said potholes remain a hazard and continue to trigger alerts on his app. The pothole at that intersection stretches across the pedestrian walkway, forcing cars and people to maneuver around it as vehicles driving over it make the damage worse.

DOT urges anyone who sees a pothole to report it to 311 to help speed up repairs to roads and crosswalks.
