4-car crash in Patchogue sends vehicle through storefront

A four-car crash in Patchogue on Saturday sent one vehicle into the front of a business.
Witnesses said a car turning into a shopping plaza from Medford Avenue hit three vehicles before crashing into the storefront.
Just before 5 p.m., Edixon Martinez of Medford said he was in the right lane on Medford Avenue when a car in the left lane cut across his path into a parking lot.
“He did a double-line switch basically,” Martinez said. “He comes in, and by that time I couldn’t stop.”
Witnesses said the driver also struck a car coming out of the parking lot and a parked vehicle before hitting the store.
Store owner Manish Jain, who has owned the business for four months, said he is thankful no one inside was hurt.
“We just heard a sound,” Jain said. “Somebody, a car, just banged us in. And we were shocked. Everything’s smashed up. I don’t know what to say but thank God we all are safe.”
Another witness, who was getting her nails done next door, said it felt like an earthquake. She said an ambulance took several people to the hospital. Suffolk police said no serious injuries were reported.
Martinez said he was not hurt and that the damage was only to material possessions.
“Did I expect this today? No, I did not,” he said. “But life happens, and it is what it is. And we’re just going to try our best and keep our heads up.”
