A Greenpoint man is facing multiple animal abuse charges after police entered his home and found 23 malnourished dogs, feces on the floor and no apparent efforts to care for them, according to a criminal complaint filed by the DA.

According to the criminal complaint, an informant told police that they entered the home of the suspect Mohamed Charrad around Jan. 15 and observed the conditions including urine-soaked floors and malnourishment for the six dogs and 17 puppies in the property as well as a smell of animal waste.

According to the complaint, when this person attempted to help the animals, Charrad discouraged it, adding "if they die, they die they are my dogs."

Police have since seized the animals from the home on 151 McGuiness Boulevard and are rehoming them according to the ASPCA.

Neighbors and residents nearby say for months, they heard the dogs whelping in the backyard of the home, as well as animals frequently escaping from the property.

Nearby resident Deliah Mann says she took a dog in off the street, and the suspect came by after a month to claim the animal after a nearly 4,000 vet bill , Mann says she paid to help the dog.

"The fur was messed up, the dog was so dysregulated and it was eating everything, even trash I had to train it not to," she said.

Video obtained by News 12 also shows the backyard of the property where the animals appear to be fighting and even eating excrement.

"I'm just glad they are out of there," Mann said.

Charrad is due in Brooklyn criminal court on Friday.
