Emergency repair work wrapped early this morning after a water main broke on Merrick Road near Amityville High School, which caused traffic delays in the area.

Crews from the Suffolk County Water Authority were seen patching up the road before reopening the road a little before 5:30 a.m.

The initial break happened yesterday afternoon in frigid temperatures near Riverside Avenue, where the New York State Department of Transportation was doing culvert work. Officials have not yet said what caused the break.

The road had been closed in both directions between Ocean Avenue and Bayview Avenue with local access near Riverside Avenue. A detour was in place at 110 and Bayview Avenue.

According to Amityville village officials, water service was disrupted at the high school yesterday evening, forcing the district to cancel last night's winter concert.

The Amityville school district said the high school is operating on a normal schedule today.
