Long Islanders ready to help SNAP recipients if needed

In a blow to the Trump administration’s plan to stop SNAP payments on Saturday, two federal judges ruled that the administration must fund the program. It’s unclear how long it will take for recipients to receive November’s payments.

Long Islanders say they are ready to help SNAP recipients if and when needed.

In a blow to the Trump administration’s plan to stop SNAP payments on Saturday, two federal judges ruled that the administration must fund the SNAP program.

It’s still unclear how long it will take for SNAP recipients to receive November’s payments.

Kevin Cassidy is offering SNAP recipients free meals at his restaurants. He owns KC’s Pizza N Wings in Islip Terrace, Holtsville and Hauppauge.

Additionally, he said he’s collected $1,100 to put toward $100 supermarket gift cards for those in need.

In East Hills, The Sid Jacobson JCC's Nikki Schwartz Memorial Community Needs Bank provides families with meals on a weekly basis.

The coordinator at the food bank says amid the SNAP uncertainty, people have been panicking and asking for assistance.
