An employee of a school in Suffolk County has been placed on administrative leave as police probe "allegations" made against the individual.

Bay Shore Superintendent of Schools Steven Maloney sent a letter to the community on Wednesday, Oct. 22, notifying the public about the incident involving a Bay Shore High School employee.

The letter does not name the staff member, their job or the allegations. It said the district took immediate action and barred the person from district property.

"The Bay Shore School District will continue to act quickly and responsibly in all matters regarding the well-being of our school community," Maloney wrote.

Today, parents of high school students were demanding answers and transparency.

“They haven’t said anything," Bay Shore parent Eileen Gibbons said. "We’re all dying to know a little bit more. I understand privacy, but my son goes here, so I’m not really interested in privacy. I’m interested in finding out what went on.”

The school district said it was fully cooperating with the Suffolk County police's ongoing investigation.

"To hear that it's coming from here is a little intimidating and it's scary," Bay Shore parent Patrice DeGregorio said. "Now, I've got to go home and worry if my child is safe or not."

Suffolk County police confirmed the probe with News 12 but said the department is unable to share additional details while it's ongoing.

"As this is a legal and personnel matter, the District is not able to provide further information at this time," Maloney wrote as well.
