Residents at Snug Harbor Condominiums in Amityville were upset, but not surprised, when their power went out again early Thursday morning.

PSEG Long Island tells News 12 a monk parakeet nest made contact with overhead electrical equipment, resulting in an outage around 2 a.m. Thursday. They say there is a "multiday effort" underway to clear the line of additional nests.

Meanwhile, crews were on site at Snug Harbor Thursday morning to repair a fault in the underground cable that caused a separate outage on Sunday.

News 12 first reported the complaints about the repeated outages on Tuesday.

PSEG LI says that the underground power cable needs to be replaced. Amityville Mayor Michael O'Neill spoke with residents following News 12's report, and says they have delivered the necessary permits to PSEG LI for that work to begin.

The utility says they have begun the procurement process to bring in contractors required for this type of work, and intend to start as quickly as possible. They add they will keep customers notified as to when the job will begin.
