Oyster Bay residents split over plans for car wash on Pine Hollow Road

David Jacobson, who bought the land six years ago and cleaned it up with the intention of developing it for a business, said the proposed car wash would be state-of-the-art with two lanes and a 25-vehicle queue on site to eliminate the backing up of cars into the road.

A public hearing Tuesday over an application to build a new car wash on Pine Hollow Road had Oyster Bay residents split right down the middle.

Half of the speakers at town hall were in favor of what would be the only car wash in town, citing the need for economic investment. The other half voiced their opposition, leaning heavily on traffic concerns, especially when it comes to making turns on the busy road.

David Jacobson bought the land six years ago and cleaned it up with the intention of developing it for a business. He said the proposed car wash would be state-of-the-art with two lanes and a 25-vehicle queue on site to eliminate the backing up of cars into the road. It would also be environmentally responsible, with a water reclamation system that would reuse 75% of their water.

The public has 60 days to comment before the town makes its decision.
