A fish tank is being blamed for causing a house fire in New Castle.

Millwood fire officials say it started in a cabinet under a large fish tank. Inside the cabinet was a power strip, which was connected to the pumps, circulators, heaters, and filters for the tank.

The fire chief warns people to be aware that components on a strip can fail, draw too much current, and start a fire. "These things can't always be 100% prevented, and that's why we encourage homeowners to have fire alarms in their homes, to make sure they're tested regularly, to make sure the components are changed out," says 2nd Assistant Fire Chief Greg Sancone of the Millwood FD.

Luckily, the damage was confined to the cabinet, and the homeowners were able to put the flames out themselves.
