Gov. Kathy Hochul says swimming resumed Friday at state park beaches following two days of restricted swimming due to rip currents and flooding.

The beaches include Jones Beach, Hither Hills, and Robert Moses. However, Hither Hills is allowing only waist-deep swimming.

"With the peak hurricane season upon us, keeping New Yorkers prepared and out of harm's way is a top priority,” said Hochul. “I am pleased the flooding and rough surf on our Long Island coast has diminished, and New Yorkers can enjoy a wonderful Labor Day weekend at the beach.”

Meanwhile, Hempstead Town beaches will allow swimmers to go waist deep in the water only and Long Beach City is currently prohibiting swimming. Meanwhile, swimming at Lido Beach West was red-flagged as of late this morning.

The dangerous water conditions were caused by Hurricane Franklin. A high rip current risk remains in effect through this evening, but officials expect much better conditions through the weekend.
