Two people have died in a wrong-way crash on the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville Thursday morning.

Police say a wrong-way driver and the person that the driver crashed into have died as a result of the crash on the westbound side of the LIE between exits 62 and 63.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. Thursday, when police say Thomas Raimondo was driving a Chevy Silverado the wrong way. Raimondo, 61, of Holbrook, crashed into Jose Ferreira, 32, of West Babylon, who was driving a 2005 Acura.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, officials say. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.

All westbound lanes on the LIE between those exits were closed for hours Thursday morning. The lanes have since reopened.

Detectives asked anyone with information on the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
