Repairs are underway on a damaged sewer line in Baldwin that caused a sinkhole to open, according to the Nassau County executive.

The 42-inch sewer line is underneath Grand Avenue at Lorenz Avenue. Work had been delayed because Nassau County was waiting on a part to be delivered.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says work is expected to continue around the clock until the job is done.

He says that could take another five days.

The sewer line caused the road to collapse and send sewage water spilling into backyards, the street and a nearby creek.

All southbound lanes on Grand Avenue are closed between Saint Luke Place and Florence Street.
