Police: 1 dead, 1 seriously injured in separate motorcycle crashes

Officers say Yener Can, 39, was riding southbound on Country Road 24 in Calverton when he hit a Honda coming off the Long Island Expressway Exit 71 off-ramp.

One person has died in two unrelated overnight motorcycle crashes on Long Island.

The first happened at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers say Yener Can, 39, was riding southbound on Country Road 24 in Calverton when he hit a Honda coming off the Long Island Expressway Exit 71 off-ramp.

Can was pronounced dead at the scene.

Then at 10:30 p.m., another crash occurred in Copiague.

Suffolk police say Rodney Roberts, 43, was riding on Straight Path when he crashed into a Nissan trying to turn left.

Roberts was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported in the two collisions, which are both under investigation.
