Long Island's first licensed cannabis delivery service opened for pre-orders Tuesday at 4:20 p.m.

Osbert Orduna officially opens his cannabis business Wednesday. It is called The Cannabis Place and will deliver marijuana right to Long Islanders' doors.

"Because we are local, we are offering delivery seven days a week from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and zero delivery charge," Orduna says.

Anyone who wants to get cannabis delivered to their homes must upload a photo ID on the company website proving that they are 21 or older. When the driver drops off the order, they check the ID again.

The website shows a list of items like cannabis flower, vapes and edibles that have gone through independent testing.

Orduna says when the order is delivered, there are many layers of security inside the car.

"We have 360-degree surveillance in our vehicles, we have direct communication via radio with our drivers at all times as they are going through their route," Orduna says.

New York has issued about three dozen licenses top open shops on Long Island, but none have launched yet. Orduna says the state is finding it hard to secure storefronts, so regulators let entrepreneurs to begin delivery services like his.

As a first-generation Columbia American growing up in New York City public housing and serving in the military, he says he is now set to live the American dream.

"There is a lot of proud history in our family - serving our nation, and it's an amazing opportunity to, as a disabled service veteran, to now be at the forefront of the licensed regulated, New York State cannabis industry," Orduna says.
