Police are searching for two men who attempted to rob a taxi driver at gunpoint in Roosevelt.
The 43-year-old driver was dispatched to a home on Harts Avenue at 2 a.m. on Saturday to pick up a female passenger. But when he arrived, police say two men brandishing handguns opened the rear doors to his cab and demanded cash.
The cab driver accelerated in an attempt to escape and the suspects backed out of the vehicle.
The driver says he heard a shot being fired, but he was not hurt. The suspects did not make off with any proceeds.
Police describe the suspects as young black males with thin builds. One wore a blue, pullover-style hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans, and the other wore a black, zip-up hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.
Anyone with information is urged to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
