Police are searching for two people who they say distracted a driver in a parking lot and then stole the woman's wallet from inside her car.
Police say the incident happened last Thursday just after 11 a.m.
According to police, a Hispanic man stopped a woman in the Lidl parking lot on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station.
Police say he told her there was something wrong with her passenger side tire.
Then, while the woman was distracted and looking at her tire, another suspect stole the woman's wallet.
Then later that same day, police say the man and woman used the victim's credit card at The Home Depot stores in Commack and East Northport.
This incident is just the latest scam of this kind some Long Island communities have seen in recent weeks. Earlier this month, police searched for different suspects who distracted victims by asking for directions and then stole their purse or wallet in Commack and Melville.
Residents say it's serves as just another reminder to stay vigilant.
"I always lock my truck, watch where I'm driving, look at my surroundings," says Anne Biernacki, of West Hills.
"Every time something happens in a different neighborhood in New York City, wherever, they say, 'Oh, this is such a quiet neighborhood' or, 'That doesn't happen around here.' It doesn't matter anymore. It just happens everywhere," says Tony Sileo, of the Town of Huntington.
Police are offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone who recognizes the suspects is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS
