Police say two men were hospitalized this evening after a cesspool exploded in the yard of a Saint James home. Suffolk police say they received a call at around 6:20 p.m. from the home at 309 Cambon Ave. A fire chief at the scene says the son of the homeowner and a contractor were using a metal object to pry open the cesspool cover. He says something must have ignited, causing the explosion. The men, ages 42 and 48, suffered second-degree burns to their faces. They both were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where doctors say they're expected to be OK. Their identities have not yet been released.
