Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy is urging potential first-time homebuyers to take advantage of the $1 million in grant money the county has available for them.
Vita Stears, who just moved into a three-bedroom home in Mastic with her family, says $14,000 from the county made it possible to purchase the home. She says she was researching on the Internet and found she was eligible for some of the grant money.
Families of four who earn a maximum of $77,700 a year are eligible for up to $12,000. A family of four with a maximum annual income of $58,250 can receive up to $14,000.
Levy says the grant money often makes the difference between a family being able to afford a home and not afford a home.
Stears says anyone who thinks they may qualify should apply, regardless of how much money they end up getting.
