Police say 19-year-old Justin Mallar is facing a slew of charges, including attempted murder, after opening fire in broad daylight on Friday.
Around 4 p.m., on Utica Avenue and Church Avenue, authorities say the 19-year-old shot into a crowd of people.
A 52-year-old woman was shot in the ankle and transported to the hospital. It’s not clear if she was the intended target, but the woman is expected to survive. A firearm was recovered by police on the scene.
The charges against Mallar include attempted murder, felony assault, criminal possession of weapon, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, menacing and misdemeanor assault. The events leading up to the shooting were not immediately clear.
Sources say Mallar was arrested once before for jumping a turnstile.
