A New York City family celebrated National Adoption Day Saturday as single mom Paula Ortiz signed final adoption papers for three foster children at Queens Family Court.
Ortiz, who cried tears of joy, says she has been the foster mother for Jonathan Torres, 14, Elizabeth Torres, 12, and Nicholas Torres, 9, for five years and first started the adoption process three years ago.
National Adoption Day raises awareness of the nearly 130,000 children in foster care across the United States. More than 20,000 children have been adopted from foster care on National Adoption Day in the past. This year, 151 adoptions were finalized at Queens Family Court Saturday.
?We're being united as one family and it just means a lot to me,? Jonathan Torres says.
