A second student brawl outside Freeport High School within days ended with the arrests of 15 Monday.
The fighting began Friday during lunch when a food fight boiled over into a brawl outside the school. The bad blood apparently lingered over the weekend and then started up again after class.
A video of Friday?s fighting ended up on YouTube. Monday?s fight was more violent. Freeport Village Police called in Nassau County cops for help. Students say police used excessive force during the arrests.
However, Freeport Police Chief Mike Woodward denies that excessive force was used. ?It's such a small group of students that's responsible for this type of activity, and the fact that they acted the way they did and challenged authority and the total disregard for their own actions -- no accountability. There are the problems that have to be addressed,? he says.
Three village police officers were hurt, two with possible wrist fractures. The third might have fractured knee.
